Marked Price (MP) = ₹900

Selling Price (SP) = ₹765

Formula Used

Discount = MP − SP

Discount % = (Discount ÷ MP) × 100

Step 1: Find the Discount

Discount

= MP − SP

= 900 − 765

= ₹135

Step 2: Find the Discount Percentage

Discount %

= (Discount ÷ MP) × 100

Substituting the values:

= (135 ÷ 900) × 100

= (15 ÷ 100) × 100

= 15%

20% of ₹500 = ₹100

Question 3: A bus ticket operator offers a 20% early booking discount on tickets from Delhi to Udaipur if passengers book their tickets at least 7 days before departure. Find the selling price of each ticket after discount:

Since the discount is 20%, the passenger has to pay:

100% − 20%

= 80%

of the marked price.

= (80/100) × 1200

= ₹960

Selling Price

= 80% of ₹1,500

= (80/100) × 1500

= ₹1,200

SSC/RRB/Banking Quick Method

When a discount of 20% is given, the customer pays:

80% of the Marked Price

So directly calculate:

80% of 1200 = 960

80% of 1500 = 1200

80% of 2000 = 1600

Question 4: A customer visits the famous Thaggu Ke Laddu sweet shop in Kanpur and purchases sweets and snacks worth ₹700.During a festive offer, the shopkeeper gives a 15% discount on the total bill. Find the amount the customer needs to pay after the discount.

A. ₹595

B. ₹580

C. ₹600

Total Bill = ₹700

Discount % = 15%

= 15% of ₹700

= (15/100) × 700

= ₹105

= MP − SP

= 20,000 − 18,400

= ₹1,600

= (Discount ÷ MP) × 100

Substituting the values:

= (1600 ÷ 20,000) × 100

= 0.08 × 100

= 8%

= (10/100) × 3800

= ₹380

Question 7: A candidate travelling from Lucknow to Prayagraj purchases a laptop bag.  Marked Price = ₹1000, Discount = 10% , GST = 18%: Find the final amount payable.

Marked Price = ₹1,000

Discount = 10%

GST = 18%

Step 1: Find the Price After Discount

Discount (Discount is applied first and GST is calculated on the discounted price)

= 10% of ₹1,000

= (10/100) × 1000 

= ₹100

Price After Discount

= 1000 − 100

= ₹900

Step 2: Find the GST Amount

GST is applied on the discounted price.

GST

= 18% of ₹900

= (18/100) × 900

= ₹162

Step 3: Find the Final Amount Payable

Final Amount Payable

= Price After Discount + GST

= 900 + 162

= ₹1,062

Final Amount Payable = ₹1,062

SSC/RRB/Banking Quick Method

First apply the discount:

10% discount

= Customer pays 90%

₹1,000 × 90%

= ₹900

Now apply GST:

₹900 × 118%

= ₹900 × 1.18

= ₹1,062

Answer = ₹1,062
